The Power of a Natural Approach

Keeping it simple, consider this:

Your brain and spinal cord are ONE— (they are not separate!).

Adjusting woman's backTo put it another way, Your BRAIN has a TAIL and that TAIL (the spinal cord) extends the length of your spinal column. Composed of billions and billions of nerve cells, they are a CONTINUUM. They are not separate.

Together, the BRAIN and Spinal Cord = the CNS (Central Nervous System).

Their purpose: The CNS “connects” the BRAIN to the BODY and connects the BODY to the BRAIN.

The problem: This ‘CORD’ connecting your BRAIN and your BODY must transit through 24 hard and unyielding though movable vertebrae. Consider over time (years) or with a single event, or with multiple events, these spinal segments compress, “jam- up”, twist, misalign and or otherwise impinge those transiting nerves. Consider the challenge: Hard bony spinal segments vs. delicate nerve tissue. Hard bones win! Nerves do at times become compressed, impinged or trapped in their course to their destination and it is their coursing through the spinal column where they are most vulnerable. When trapped or impinged they often become irritable, inflamed, overexcited and or eventually exhausted. Angry or exhausted nerves manifest in the form of pain, numbness, weakness, tingling, coldness, swelling and more. Further, whatever system that depends upon those nerve networks falter or fail as well.

When the CNS is fully functioning, our systems tend to function well.

When the CNS is diminished in function (biomechanical compression and distortion) we suffer (pain, spasm, weakness, numbness, tingling, exhaustion, ect.)

Our focus at Wilson Chiropractic is to locate spinal compression and distortion, to reduce that compression/distortion, so that nerves can function optimally.

Gentle, Focused Adjustments

At the practice, we use the Diversified Technique, which is utilized to reduce pain, restore motion, and enhance function. This approach encompasses various methods:

  • Muscle work
  • Spinal adjusting
  • Pressure point therapy
  • Manual decompression
  • Physiotherapy
  • Mechanical vibration
  • Exercise instruction
  • Ergonomic instruction
  • Home-care-self care instruction
  • And more!

By using a broad approach, we can tailor care to match your preferences and needs.

Each case which presents is evaluated with an open mind. At times “overactive ‘reactive’ muscles” are a part of the problem. We work on that. At times compressed, crammed and misaligned spinal segments are part of the problem. We work on that. At times injured spinal segments have become swollen and inflamed. We work on that.

But then there is the BIG PICTURE: General health/ medications/ diabetics/ AGE/ Work history/ Injuries/ Male vs Female/ REST and Exercise habits/ Acute vs. chronic complaints and more.

All of these factors and more are considered when patients present for care.

Custom-Tailored Care to Address Your Condition

Every day, we see people who seek our help to relieve common complaints like

  • Headaches
  • Neck tension and pain
  • Neck pain radiating to the shoulder blade
  • Arm pain, weakness, numbness, or tingling
  • Low back pain carrying into the buttock or legs as in sciatica

However, our first duty is to determine if your problems are chiropractic problems! By taking a thorough Consultation including History, inspection, orthopedic, chiropractic, neurological examinations, and at times Imaging, Chiropractors develop an assessment and provide a working diagnosis for your concerns. And when patients present with non-chiropractic problems in need of attention, they are referred to the appropriate specialist. Patients are not one-dimensional and are not treated as such.

Then again, sometimes patients will present with conditions which they haven’t “connected” with spinal issues, but which can be spinal issues. Asthma, migraines and high blood pressure can absolutely be aggravated and made worse by spinal tension or issues. Patients often remark that following chiropractic sessions, their blood pressure readings go down and asthma symptoms are reduced for example.

Regardless, whatever your situation or concerns, whether you are in for a singular visit or a course of care, we will work to focus on your health goals and overall wellness.
